Delight Thyself in the Lord

Delight Thyself in the Lord
“Delight thyself in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalms 37:4

What a beautiful promise this scripture is! But, you may be surprised at what it means, and how it works.

1. Delight Yourself in the Lord
2. He shall Give Thee the Desires of Thine Heart

Delight Yourself in the Lord
To receive the desires of our heart, we must first delight ourselves in the Lord. Delighting ourselves is a two-fold action. The first part is the part we all know and love: to take abundant joy in the Lord.
The second part is actually DE-lighting yourself in the Lord. That means to take the spotlight off of ourselves, and put it on the Lord. It’s a focus shift. Instead of living to please ourselves, we live to please the Lord. We seek Him and His will above our own.

He Shall Give Thee the Desires of Thine Heart
This part is a two-fold action on God’s part. When you are delighting yourself in the Lord and taking the focus off of yourself, then He shall (shall is a promise) give thee the desires of thine heart.
Our God is the Father of the cattle on a thousand hills. He constantly promises to provide for our physical needs. But, this scriptures isn’t talking about needs - it’s talking about desires!
What is it your heart truly desires? Delight thyself in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

But, wait…
It may not be what you think. Yes, it could certainly be that “thing” your heart is longing for, but it could also be the reshaping of your heart's desires, too. Part of that promise is not only that God shall give you the desires of your heart, but that God will be the one to put the desires on your heart. In other words, when you are delighting yourself in the Lord, you might just find that what your heart desires most gets reshaped.

For, when you seek God above all else, and your soul delights in Him and His will, then you're doing God’s will, God’s way, and…

…He opens the Heavens and pours out a blessing you cannot contain.
